Romsey Arts Festival 2008

Malcolm Creese - Romsey Arts festival Chairman

For locals and visitors alike, there is a huge range of music and art and some real surprises - something to inspire everyone, regardless of age or background. Romsey Arts Festival is rare amongst festivals in that it features amateur and professional artists, almost all of whom live in Romsey or its surrounds. Furthermore, the events and exhibitions are organised independently by individuals and local groups, not 'bought in' by the festival. The result is a showcase for local talent with a unique Romsey flavour.

There are more events than ever, and the festival has expanded out into several villages around Romsey. There is a heightened focus on including young people this year too - as participants and as audience members; a large number of schools have joined in for the first time with exhibitions, performances, workshops and a major new Youth Arts Project.

These changes have only been possible because of the invaluable support from our sponsors and funding organisations, and in particular Test Valley Borough Council, which has been extremely generous in helping the festival committee to achieve its new ideas.

In addition to their artistic talent, the people of Romsey possess an extraordinary drive for making things happen. This is typified by the dedication of the large number of tireless event organisers, helpers, and the members of the festival committee, all of whom are volunteers.

But ultimately, the success of the festival depends on the people who attend the events - you! So please bring your friends and families and join in the fun!
