Poetry Competition

The competition is being organised in two sections 'Adult' and 'Schools'. There are no entry fees and the closing date for entries is 30th June 2008. Each poem should be presented on A4 paper with the name, address, contact telephone number and date of birth of the entrant written on the back of the page. If you would like your poem returned to you, please enclose a SAE.

Poems must not have been published and all entries will be judged on merit. Full registration and entry details, and information about prizes and deadlines can be found in all schools in the designated area and in Romsey Library. All prize-winners will be invited to read their poems during a performance event at 12.00pm on Wednesday 16th July in the Abbey United Reform Church. The actual prizes will be presented at the Festival Closing Service on Sunday 20th July.
The Adult Competition
The Adult Competition is for those who are 17 years or older on 1st July 2008. Entrants should be amateurs at the time of entry and live within 20 miles of Romsey. Adult entrants should submit one poem on any subject, and it can be up to 40 lines in length.
The Schools Competition
The Schools Competition is for those who are 16 or under on 1st July 2008. Entrants should live in, or attend a school in the Lower Test Valley area. Prizes will be awarded in six different age groups. Pupils should submit one poem of up to 30 lines in length. For Years 1 to 6 the theme is 'Celebration'. For Years 7 to 11 the theme is 'Life's for Living'.
