Romsey Abbey Bell Ringers - Quarter Peal

Romsey Abbey
A treat for the ears which can be heard all around Romsey!
A quarter peal is the bell ringing equivalent of running a 10km race. On Romsey Abbey bells, it involves a team of eight ringers utilising physical and mental skills, ringing one bell each in a continuously changing order for approximately 45 minutes without stopping.
The successful completion of a quarter peal is a significant achievement and they are rung to celebrate notable civic and religious occasions.
A full peal of 5040 changes, which is all the possible sequences of seven bells without repetition, has been achieved 116 times at Romsey Abbey since 1791 and takes over three hours to ring, the ringing equivalent of a marathon!
Why not come along and enjoy a summer's evening sitting outside in the Abbey grounds listening to the bells ringing? We practice every Wednesday evening between 7.00pm and 9.00pm.
Entrance to the Abbey is free if people want to look around inside and donations are always gratefully received towards church restoration work.
