This event marks the culmination of months of hard work by pupils from most of the schools in the Romsey area. Under the guidance of resident artist Elizabeth Hodgson from Underground Art and Design, students from Romsey and Mountbatten schools have been working with children from their 'feeder schools' on the design and creation of a grand archway for the Sir Harold Hillier Education Garden.

The students will attend a series of workshops in the morning during which they will devise a special show based on environmental and ecological themes and design their own costumes using recycled materials. Music and dance pieces will be performed by the students, and a final grand procession will accompany the unveiling of the archway at around 1.00pm. There will be presentations and a chance to see some archive material on the workshops and planning that led up to this event.

A Romsey Arts Festival initiative, this large-scale project has brought together many hundreds of young people to work in the creative arts. The project, overseen by Gordon Clark, Jan Lefley and the expert Education Team at Hillier Gardens, is intended to carry on into the future so that more artworks will be launched at subsequent Romsey Arts Festivals.

Parents and students taking part in the activities are invited to bring a picnic to the Gardens on this day.
