Kokoro String Quartet

Kokoro
Kokoro, the contemporary music ensemble of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, presents the Kokoro String Quartet.
Graham Fitkin - Servant, Philip Glass - String Quartet no. 5
Joby Talbot - String Quartet no. 1, Arvo Part - Summa
Dmitri Shostakovich - String Quartet no. 8
The Kokoro String Quartet's programme showcases four contrasting works by so called 'minimalist' composers, and a 20th century masterwork. There's the rhythmic drive and energy of Cornish composer Graham Fitkin, a representative work by the high priest of minimalism Philip Glass, a short quartet by the former Classic FM composer-in-residence Joby Talbot, a contemplative piece by the Estonian mystic Arvo Part, and finally the concert reaches its climax with Shostakovich's powerful and highly personal Eighth Quartet. In advance of this concert, the members of the Kokoro String Quartet have visited schools in Romsey and conducted workshops with students.
